New York Fashion Week: We Make You Confident in Your Clothes, or we are out of business.

Check out this blog post on our time learning from designer 3.1 Phillip Lim this past month at NYFW 2024.

We've got all kind of stories, tips, and tricks to share about our time at New York Fashion Week recently, but the experience that takes the cake for us was most definitely our time at the designer session Q&A with designer 3.1 Phillip Lim.  This year, NYFW offered opportunities for creatives to come and hear from designers during these sessions.  It was hosted in the backstage area, which was SO FUN and included free coffee from Bluestone Lane, getting your hair done by Tresseme, and more!

In a lot of ways, hearing Phillip's talk on his way of doing business and reaching his customers was very encouraging for us.  In a world of high fashion, trends, and things that can feel inaccessible, everything Philip said about his clothing line went back to two things:

  • Do what you love & what you are passionate about

  • Serve the people around you.

For Phillip, an Asian American, this has meant stay in his office in China town and make and design clothes for the people he knows who are in his context.  One of the most gripping things he said was... "If the clothes don't fit, I am out of business.  If you don't feel good in the clothes, I am out of business.  If the zipper doesn't work, I am out of business."  Everything seemed to go back to reaching the customer and the people in his life.

For us at Welldressed, we feel so similar.  Our desire is for everything in our business to be about you- our customers, our clients, and our friends.  If the clothes are inaccesible, too expensive for your budget, don't make you feel more sure of yourself- we have not done our job.  Everything we do goes back to helping you feel confident in your clothes- end stop.  If we aren't doing that, we are out of business.

How a Closet Clean-Out Can Save You Money in Charleston, SC

When most people think of hiring a personal stylist in Charleston, they imagine shopping sprees, not saving money. But here’s the secret: a closet clean-out can be one of the smartest financial moves you make this year.

At Welldressed Charleston, we’ve seen firsthand how cleaning out your closet—strategically—can simplify your life, sharpen your style, and help you spend less on clothes you don’t need.

1. You Discover What You Actually Own

We’ve all been there: buying yet another white blouse or pair of jeans because we forgot we already have three just like it. A professional closet clean-out reveals what’s hiding in plain sight. Once your wardrobe is organized, you’ll know exactly what you have and what you actually wear—so you stop spending on duplicates.

Our Charleston clients are often surprised by how many great pieces they already own. You might not need a full new wardrobe—just fresh ways to style what you already have.

2. You Shop Smarter, Not Harder

After a clean-out, you gain clarity on what’s missing from your closet. That insight allows you to shop with intention—filling true gaps rather than impulse-buying trend pieces.

At Welldressed, we help you identify your core wardrobe essentials—the pieces that suit your lifestyle, body type, and Charleston’s unique coastal climate. This focused approach saves money over time and results in a wardrobe that truly works for you, season after season.

3. You Can Resell or Donate Unused Items

Charleston is full of stylish consignment and resale boutiques where you can give your pre-loved clothing a second life. During your closet clean-out, we help you decide what to keep, tailor, donate, or sell.

Whether you choose to resell through a local shop or donate to a Charleston-area nonprofit, you’ll free up physical and mental space—and maybe even earn a little back in the process.

4. You’ll Feel More Confident in Every Outfit

Confidence is priceless—but it’s also practical. When you open your closet and love every single option, you stop wasting time and money chasing “something better.” A clean, curated wardrobe reduces the stress of getting dressed and helps you rediscover the joy in your personal style.

Many of our clients say they spend less on clothing after a clean-out because they finally understand what fits, flatters, and feels authentic.

5. You Protect Your Investment

Quality clothing lasts longer when it’s properly stored, organized, and cared for. During your Welldressed closet clean-out, we assess your wardrobe’s condition, helping you identify what needs tailoring, repairing, or refreshing. Protecting the pieces you already love prevents unnecessary spending on replacements.

Ready to Save Money and Simplify Your Wardrobe?

A closet clean-out isn’t just about decluttering—it’s about redefining your style and making every piece in your wardrobe earn its place. At Welldressed Charleston, we help you transform your closet into a curated collection that works for your lifestyle and budget.

Schedule your Closet Clean-Out Session today at welldressedchs.com and discover how simplicity can be your most stylish investment yet.

5 Wardrobe Essentials for Charleston Women

When it comes to dressing in Charleston, style is as much about comfort as it is about confidence. The Holy City’s mix of historic charm, coastal weather, and social energy means your wardrobe should balance effortless polish with practicality. As Charleston stylists, we’ve curated five timeless wardrobe essentials that every woman should have in her closet—pieces that transition seamlessly from brunch on King Street to an evening stroll along the Battery.

1. A Breezy Midi Dress

A lightweight cotton midi dress is a Charleston staple. It’s perfect for our warm, humid days and can easily be elevated with the right shoes and accessories. Opt for flowy fabrics like cotton or linen, and look for prints that reflect Lowcountry charm—florals, stripes, or subtle coastal tones. Pair it with sandals by day and wedges or block heels by night.

2. Tailored Linen Blazer

Even in the heat, a linen blazer adds structure without sacrificing breathability. Charleston women love layering it over sundresses or pairing it with jeans and a silk cami for dinner out. A neutral color like white, beige, or soft blue complements the coastal palette and keeps your outfit effortlessly sophisticated.

3. Elevated Denim

Invest in one pair of well-fitting jeans that flatter your shape and can be styled year-round. Whether you prefer straight-leg, cropped, or high-waisted, good denim is the foundation of a versatile wardrobe. Charleston’s laid-back elegance makes denim the perfect base for both casual and dressy looks—just switch up your accessories.

4. Comfortable, Chic Footwear

Between cobblestone streets and rooftop patios, Charleston calls for footwear that’s stylish yet functional. A comfortable pair of leather sandals, espadrilles, or sleek white sneakers will take you from brunch to the beach in style. Save your heels for special occasions, and opt for comfort without losing sophistication.

5. Effortless Accessories

No Charleston wardrobe is complete without statement accessories. Think gold hoops, a structured straw tote, and a pair of timeless sunglasses. Accessories are where your personality shines through—they add that final polish to even the simplest outfit.

Build Your Charleston Capsule Wardrobe

At Welldressed, we specialize in helping Charleston women curate wardrobes that work for their lifestyle, body type, and personal taste. From closet clean-outs to wardrobe refreshes, we make it easy to streamline your style and fall in love with getting dressed again.

Welldressed 2025: Ins!

With a start of a new year, everyone is doing their 2025 “ins& outs.” Our personal stylists want to give you some fun style trends and tips they are excited to see and try this year!

One of our favorite things to follow as the new year starts is everyone's in's and out's of the year.  Of course- we had to work on our own to share with you!   In true (not so) Mundane Monday fashion, we hope that you will try these new style tips at home- and share your pictures with us!

POLKA DOTS

A statement pattern that is always in, but we're noticing is everywhere this winter.  If you're afraid of starting with a pattern- but want to get out of your comfort zone- this one is for you!   This black and white pattern looks good on everyone.

ROMANTIC RUFFLES

Chloe set the scene with this in 2024 with their iconic fashion show- and now these textures are everywhere!  We love how billowy these different pieces look.  They scream ultra feminine and we are here for it.   Most major stores have pieces that resemble this concept- so show us your take!

STATEMENT COLLARS

Looks like the large collars on blouses aren't going anywhere.  Ganni and Damson Madder have led out in this over the last year, and we will continue to see more of them!  An easy way to incorporate them into your wardrobe is by throwing them on under a sweater.  For a more casual look, you could even try it under a sweatshirt!

ACCESSORY CHARMS

On a bag, on a tennis shoe, even on a boot.  Why not make parts of your outfit even more fun with charms?  We've even seen some stores with "charm bars" for your bags!  This is the ultimate way to show self expression.  Some of our favorites we've found recently at Anthro.  If you've got charms on your bags & shoes- we want to see!

PEEPTOE HEELS

The kitten heel has been all the rage the last couple seasons, and while it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, peeptoes on back on the rise!  Especially closer to spring and summer, we will continue to see more of these.  Make sure and stay on top of those pedicures.

STRAIGHT DENIM

Denim has been all over the place the last few years.  In 2025, we expect to see less of baggy, oversized jeans, and more women starting to own & wear more classic, straight cut denim.  Plus- this looks the best on everyone.

SILVER JEWELRY

While we believe that both gold and silver are ALWAYS in, and you should wear what looks best with your skin tone and what you enjoy the most- silver is taking over everywhere.    Dare to try it out.  If you're nervous, try mixing metals!

LIKING YOUR CLOSET

How frequently are you looking at your closet and thinking "I don't have anything to wear" or "I hate all this stuff."  We're done with you being overwhelmed and sick of your closet.  Let yourself be at ease in your closet in 2025- we can help with this!

Dressing for yourself and feeling confident in your clothes are trends that are always in.
Which of these pieces are you most excited to try in 2025?!
I (Megan) got a few polka dot pieces for my birthday so will be experimenting with those.  I've also been collecting charms for my bag (stay tuned) and my mom, Bronson, and Abby all got my bag charms for Christmas- they know me.
We know that Abby will definitely be trying the romantic ruffles- can't wait to see how she styles them!

A New Closet for Christmas

Your husband's holiday party is next week.  You walk in the closet with dread scouring through your hangers knowing nothing in here will make you feel confident enough to pretty to enjoy small talk with his co-workers.  You beg him to let you stay home because you don't have anything to wear.

Your family is taking Christmas card pictures- and you refuse to be in them because you don't feel confident in how you look because there's nothing you love to put on in your closet.

The idea of attending that Holiday Cocktail party with your girlfriends sounds fun, but you end up denying the invite because all you have that fits right now are leggings and you don't have a cute fit to wear.

Any of this sound familiar?  You're not the only one!  And if it sounds like some thoughts of feelings that resonate with you... sounds like you may need some fresh eyes & perspective to come in and help you build looks with hat you own in your closet to get you saying YES to all the right things in your life again.

(Not so) Mundane Monday: Oxfords can be cool.

Oxford button downs are a staple that every person needs in their closet. But how do we style them?! We’ve all been confused before about how to make them look cool and put together. Hear from personal stylists about how to make the most of this cool classic!

We've been brainstorming about how to get our followers more involved and teach you some things to practice along the way.  May we introduce... (not so) Mundane Mondays!  Twice a month, we will be posting on Mondays highlighting different fashion tips, tricks, and features we want to share with you!   Our hope is that YOU will try our fashion challenges too, and send us your fits!

YOU'RE NOT MARRIED TO CRISP WHITE

While it's certainly important to have a plain white shirt in your wardrobe-add some pattern and color to those button downs!  Abby's Simon Miller blue stripped Oxford is perfect.  Plus- it also ties in the back (bonus points for the way she had it unbutton the last couple buttons to give the fit some dimension)!

ROLL UP THE SLEEVES

Rolling up the sleeves of a dress shirt instantly makes the look more feminine. Rarely- if ever- should you leave the whole sleeve down on an Oxford.  Rolling up the sleeves give it a more modern & cool look, while also showcasing your accessories.

TUCKING WORKS WONDERS

Looking at the picture thinking the waist looked snatched?  Yes, clothes are supposed to FIT!   Mistakes we can often make with an Oxford it just letting them hang.  They are meant to be styled- and one of the easiest ways to do this is tuck it in (multiple ways to tuck- complete, French, or one side in, one side out).  Add a good belt and you're got an elevated look.

IF YOU DON'T TUCK- WEAR A FITTED TEE UNDERNEATH

Having a fitted tee or tank top underneath will give the outfit shape & dimension, so the Oxford isn't just hanging on your body.  Wearing it open with a fitted option underneath gives a more breezy, casual look!

LAYER WITH A SWEATER

One of my favorite ways to wear an Oxford is underneath other pieces of clothing.  Last fall, I added one underneath a sweatshirt and it instantly elevated the fit and made it look less like loungewear.  A few other staple ways to do this is under a vest or classic crew neck sweater!

THE CARRIE BRADSHAW

Many of us remember the fit that Carrie made of the dress shirt.  May we also remember that this was because she fell in the pond with BIG and had to wear this home... it wasn't supposed to be a dress (it's way too short) but the concept stuck.  We'd like to suggest a few more tasteful ways to try it (almost) like a dress!

Notice how she added the white mini skirt underneath and the fanny pack bag to create shape at her waist!

Love this with the biker shorts underneath and the high boots.  Accessories are always key as well- notice the jewelry and the bag!

BUY LESS, SPEND MORE.

Hear from personal stylists on how to spend more on the right pieces, but buy less. Maybe one of the reasons you’re having trouble building looks in your wardrobe is because you’re buying the wrong things- and buying too much!

BUY LESS- SPEND MORE

One of the easiest ways we can waste money is by purchasing a bunch of cheap clothes of poor quality.  I'm guilty of this too because life is EXPENSIVE!  So how do we invest in our wardrobe when everything costs so much?  We'd love to encourage you tobuy less, spend more.

What if... you bought a $200 of jeans that you felt confident in each time, that lasted you two years- instead of buying 3-4 pairs of $50 jeans that are MEH and you hate wearing?

What if... you invested in a $150 blazer made of quality materials that you can wear each season- instead of buying a cheap one for $40 that you hate and isn't comfortable?

What if... you purchase that staple dress for $140 dress that is your "go to" outfit every time you're bloated or self conscious and it looks good EVERY TIME - instead of paying $45-50 for multiple dresses that hang in the back of your closet that you don't like how you look in?

What if... you purchase quality button down's and sweaters (maybe 2 of each for $70) that you can wear at least once a week with anything- instead of a bunch of $35 shirts you don't ever wear that waste space in your closet?

While we are style experts- we have to practice these things as well!  I still regularly buy too much stuff because it's on "sale" and it looks "cute."  But every time I make a quality investment purchase- I don't have much buyer's remorse.  I know it was worth the extra $$$.

Your best next step if you're feeling these tensions?!  Hire us for Wardrobe Refresh and we can help you build those basics (they don't have to be boring)!

(Not So Mundane) Monday: ADD A BOW!

Join our personal styling challenge- ADD A BOW!

We've been brainstorming about ways to get our online friends more involved with practicing some styling tips on their own.  May we introduce... (not so) Mundane Mondays!  Twice a month, we will be posting blogs on Mondays highlighting different fashion tips, tricks, and features we want to share with you!   Our hope is that YOU will try our fashion challenges too, and send us your fits (stylist@welldressedchs.com OR DM is on instagram-@welldressedchs)!

IN YOUR HAIR

One of the easiest ways to incorporate bows into your outfits is by adding them as an easy accessory to your hair.  Chances are, in just about any store you. walk into these days, there are fun bows to purchase!

May we recommend.....

  • Adding a fun organza bow to a braid

  • If you have shorter or more fine hair, add bow clips

  • If you want less of a statement piece, add a small ribbon to the back of your hair (we love the ones with sparkle).

ON YOUR BAG

Odds are that you have seen all the bag accessory content lately!  We love all the bag charms and are also seeing lots of bows on bags as well.  This Coach bag is out of stock in many of the colors online.  The best part?  You can add ribbons like this yourself on a bag at home.  Find an everyday purse and add on some bows!

ADDED TO A BUTTON DOWN

I recently saw a Tiktoker wear a denim button down unbuttoned with a lace ribbon as a bow at the top.  I was obsessed!  You can see in the photo she laced it through the top few button holes to create a bow on her own.  We love the way it made this more casual look appear more feminine!!

Our favorite bow picks here!

WE WANT YOUR PARTICIPATION!
While you can certainly buy the products we linked here in the blog, you can also utilize what's in your closet!  The most important part?  Send us pictures of your challenge!  You can text or email us your pictures, or better yet, tag us on insta!

Trends Don’t Dictate- They Inspire.

Hear from expert personal stylists on their take on how we should view trends!

For some reason, I find myself hearing more about trends in the fall more than any other season.  Maybe it's because there are such significant purchase to make with them (jeans, jackets, boots)?  Maybe it's still the "back to school shopping" that lingers in us even as adults?  There's something about mid-late August that has us thinking about buying new things and wondering what the hottest new trends are.

The problem with doing this every August (or if you do it seasonly, each season) is that trends change.  Just about every season.  So this implies two things....
1). We have money to buy new clothes every season (not many people can do this)
2)  Our style changes constantly depending on "what's trending."

But let us be clear- trends aren't bad!  We just have to keep them in their proper place. Our hot take is that trends shouldn't be followed until and after you know your personal sense of style, and once you've built your capsule wardrobe with basic pieces. Otherwise, you'll never have the main pieces you need, and you will be constantly confused by what your style is. We have to remind myself of the same things! We LOVE trends, purely because they are fun, and trend casting is enjoyable to keep up with!

The fun in trends, though, is that after you've established generally what kind of style you like to wear/portray, and you have your classic pieces on lock, you can just incorporate trends in here and there! So... trends don't dictate what our style is, but rather, they help inspire us to take something popular and make it our own.

That being said... if you enjoy following trends, here's a few we've spotted this fall:

You'll probably spot me wearing studs & grommets, while you'll see Abby trying out the lace skirts. Why? Because they speak to our personal sense of style and we can't wait to make them our own.

Where Sports Meets Style.

It’s no secret that tennis is one of the most stylish sports out there. While I (Megan) have NO athletic ability whatsoever- I’m all about a cute tennis skort, and everyday, effortless jewelry. It took me back to my childhood. My Grandmother has always been very active (wish I got that gene) and growing up she didn’t miss a match at her country club playing doubles with friends. While my Grandmother is more of an everyday/casual lady when it comes to clothing, she always had the best jewelry (and still does). I remember as a girl being obsessed with her gold chain necklace complete with a tennis racket charm that she’d wear everyday. Her staples with diamond studs and classic gold hoops. Yep, she wore these pieces when she played tennis at the club. I’m HERE for sports where they celebrate wearing jewelry!!

Enough of my childhood musings…. a couple weeks ago, our dear friend Anna invited us to a very special event at the jewelry store she manages on King St- Gorjana. We’ve done some fun collabs with Anna/Gorjana before, so we LOVE being on her invite list.

Each year in Charleston in the spring, the city hosts a tennis tournament on Daniel Island called Credit One Charleston Open. Even if you don’t enjoy tennis, it’s the most fun event to attend. It’s outside, there’s frose, and it’s inevitable that you will run into friends. Plus- it’s the PERFECT chance to show off a cute outfit. To celebrate the tournament, Gorjana hosted a party that Monday evening featuring Jessica Pegula. Jessica (or “Jessie” as her friends call her) is a world-renown tennis champ. She’s currently the best women’s tennis player in the US- and 5th world wide. Just kind of a big deal. She recently launched a collaborative line with Gorjana, and we got to go and see the jewelry and meet Jessica herself!

This was me telling Jessica I loved her Prada slides. Literally- she had such a fun, effortless Cali girl type style that we loved. She also told me she liked my outfit so… that’s a win. The next day for Bronson & I’s date night, we got to go watch her play in the tournament (and I got to flex that I met her the night before… LOL). She won her match and crushed it!

Looking to incorporate some tennis girl type style in your wardrobe? Check out this adorable tennis skort we love from Abercrombie. You can wear it running errands around town, at brunch with friends, or playing tennis (HA). We also love this tennis bracelet from Anthro (add to cart!!)
